Read below to understand how I communicate assignments and scores for
Government & Economics
As an aside, the site title (History Haus) made a lot more sense when I was mainly teaching History classes. It makes very little sense now that I teach Politics, Government and Economics. However, "Social Science Haus" doesn't have a very catchy ring to it. It's probably irrelevant anyway, since you'll spend little time on this site. It exists mainly to direct you to the sites and services that we primarily use for each course. If you have any questions, click here for the Contact Me page.

A note about homework: Government
Students will not have homework every night in this class. Depending upon the unit, they may have between 1 or 2 and perhaps 3 or 4 homework assignments in a unit. We do not check out textbooks for students to take home. We use them, as needed, during class time. Students may sometimes need to finish at home any classwork that was not completed during class time. This would be indicated in the Google Classroom stream (see below).
CLARIFYING TECH TOOLS:
Where to find what
Looking for announcements, reminders and resource links? Check GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Looking for the most current grade, plus scores & comments on individual assignments (along with a homework calendar)? Check JUPITER ED
Scores and comments for assignments are posted to JupiterEd, because this is where students will submit most assignments and all quizzes and electronic portions of unit tests. JupiterEd will also calculate the current grade, using the grade scale that has been modified to fit the standards-based, 4-3-2-1 system we use in this course. For more details the grading system works, and what it looks like in JupiterEd, see the Course Syllabus posted above.
What is JupiterEd?JupiterEd has two main functions in our classroom: 1) It is a highly convenient and capable LMS (learning management system), and 2) it is an efficient and easy to use grading program. This means that students can write documents in Jupiter, or submit documents from other services (such as Google Docs) or applications (such as Word) for scoring. It also means that unit tests can be written in it and students can take them right on the Chrome Book in class, with the order of questions and the order of possible answers automatically randomized. One of the main reasons why I use JupiterEd is to be able to leverage the fact that each student has a Chrome Book in class (making work submission much smoother and more organized).
Don't have a parent JupiterEd account, but want one?Temporary passcodes for parents were sent home the first day of the current semester. If you missed it, or changed your mind and would now like an account, just send me an email request and I'll send a one-click access link with a temporary passcode. It's a quick and easy process.

For snapshot grades & standards assessments, check SYNERGY PARENT VUE / PARENT VUE (posted roughly every two weeks)
RECENT OVERALL LETTER GRADE: Check Synergy StudentVUE or ParentVUE
Reminder: For this class, JupiterEd is your most up-to-date and complete source of grade information. Also, remember that the grading scale for these classes is different than a traditional scale, and this is because it uses a standards-based grading system, as described in the Course Overview and Syllabus, which you can access at the top of this column.

While students will take electronic tests and submit electronic assignments to JupiterEd, practice study sets are sometimes used in Quizlet - a free review app.
