READING ABOUT CURRENT EVENTS
During 2nd semester, we will - from time to time - read about current events (or articles relating to economics, politics or government) using Newsela. You might be assigned to read an article and take a short quiz, or make annotations within an article (or respond to annotations I've made), or to provide a short written response. This page provides the join link for your class and directions on joining the service. As needed, it may also provide directions about how to use it for certain assignments.
Step 1: Click the correct class link for your class period below.
CLASS LINK FOR PERIOD 5 / 1B: https://newsela.com/join/#/2QQXJW
CLASS LINK FOR PERIOD 6 / 2B: https://newsela.com/join/#/STV7YN
CLASS LINK FOR PERIOD 7 / 3B: https://newsela.com/join/#/7FHVQ5
Step 2: Follow the directions in the image below (which you can click to enlarge). If you already have a Newsela account follow the directions on the left and if you are new to Newsela, follow the directions on the right. To make things easier, use your school Google sign in for Newsela too.
The cool thing about Newsela is that it offers five different reading levels of each article (gradually learning the best level for you after administering eight quizzes across all classes you are in that use Newsela), and corresponding levels of quizzes. Some of the articles are also available in Spanish (at 3-5 different levels of difficulty). This allows us to more meaningfully differentiate readings to better fit all members of the class.
