GUIDES & DOCUMENTS
CURRENT DRAFT OF PDF BOOK EXPLAINING THE SIM: Includes Lego construction directions (will be updated regularly)The guide book is largely complete (Public Goods section is finished). The Revolution section is outdated and inaccurate, and there is no chapter on World Trade yet. All the other details, including how to make goods, corporate products and how to build Legos, found corporations, etc. is set.
INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMICS & STATE: Trade and Develop, including strategy options to improve on each indicatorThis document is the place to start, when it comes to understanding the simulation. Once you're into the simulation, don't forget the tips on the back of this sheet, which can help you address economic and other indicators that may not be looking so good for your nation. Of course, you can't do everything (scarcity), so you must consider the tradeoffs of improving various areas, establish your immediate and longer-term priorities and make choices about what to build, research or acquire. Good luck.

ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION ARE CRITICAL ASPECTS OF THIS SIMULATION
The aim of Economics & State is to simulate international trade, development economics and the major ideas of Economics we have studied so far in the class. It also blends some elements of government and foreign policy into the picture (see Introduction document in above right corner for more details). The goal is to put you your nation (and you) in situations of scarcity and to force you to consider tradeoffs, weight opportunity costs and make decisions you believe will maximize utility for your nation and/or yourself. It does this mainly through a hands-on simulation approach, with minimal mini-lessons along the way. In other words, it's a very different unit than anything we've done so far. If you're not in class, you can't participate, and if you're not participating, you're to learning much in this unit. Therefore, attendance and participation are crucial in this final unit of the year.
The month of May is, of course, a crazy time of year due to absences for IB exam testing and the end of spring sports (plus Physics field trip, etc.) Sometimes other "events" intrude as well, including "skip days." In a real sense, the simulation is the extended final for the class (and will culminate in a written reflection and graded class discussion). Absences need to be limited to those that cannot be otherwise avoided due to exam or competition conflicts. If you simply stop coming to class, your grade WILL be negatively affected. If you come to class, you will participate, log your progress, and reflect on developments in the simulation, maintaining your grade and giving you a chance to raise it with the final written assignment and discussion.
